Lapidary By Lhianon

Lapidary, one who deals in precious or semiprecious stone.  Similarly, a lapidary is an artist who works stones into wearable items.

As an artist, all stones are precious to me.  Every rock has its own unique energy embedded in it from its (inception/creation/formation) on earth. There is energy in stones.

Ever since childhood I have collected rocks.  Always, at the bottom of my toy box, in the basket of my bicycle, the window sill, my school bag, everywhere, always, I have my rocks.

My collection is not limited to the semi precious stones that I work with, but rocks from places all over the world.

Friends, Family and Co workers have gone on countless vacations and brought me... rocks.

While some ask for souvenir shot glasses or magnets, I ask for a rock or stone from wherever they are going.  Snap a picture and make a note of where you got the rock.  I will add it to my collection, with many thanks and a smile.

I became interested in making jewelry many years ago when hemp was all the rage.  I bought some hemp and some plastic beads and made some necklaces and anklets for my friends and family.  Quickly I realized I wanted to move toward something a bit more elegant and so began my love for semi precious bead work.   It didn't take me long to realize that semi precious stones and hemp are hard to put together due to the larger size of hemp and the smaller size of the holes in the beads.  Stones seem to be made for beading wire, hemp is just too big...

The next logical step was to buy some wire and clasps and see what happened.

I created several pieces with the plethora of glass beads I had accumulated.  Pleased with my work, I began combining various stones and really enjoying the results.

As you can see, based on my inventory list, I have quite an array of stones.  I am constantly making jewelry in my head, comparing stones, thinking about what works, what doesn't.  My mission is to create unique, pieces of jewelry with special meaning and purpose for the individual.

You can use the stone list to choose colors to match an outfit, you can create something to match your mood.  Someones favorite color?  why not help design a beautiful piece of wearable art  just for them, or for you.
